Pearl Oyster Bar report

Deenso | Nov 8, 2004 10:15 AM

My husband was in the mood for fish and I just wanted to have dinner out - anywhere. Wandered over to Cornelia Street, took a chance and walked into POB. The wait was about half an hour and we ended up at the marble bar. Very friendly service and atmosphere. We started with 6 oysters and 6 Little Neck clams on the halfshell - briny and oh-so-fresh tasting. For our main courses, I had the famous lobster roll and fries; my husband had roasted cod atop a bed of brussels sprouts and mixed veggies. My lobster roll was excellent, but his fish was incredibly good - moist, done absolutely perfectly, with a savory crunch on top. No dessert (it was quite late on Saturday evening and they were out of pie).

It was completely amazing to me that, in the midst of the crowded and chaotic, tiny place, the wait staff appeared to remain completely calm and relaxed. The music in the background (ranging from Rosemary Clooney and Broadway hits like "Hair" to the Beatles and the Stones) had just enough volume to be heard but not enough to make conversation difficult. Made the atmosphere really fun.

This was a wonderful dinner and I can't wait to go back.
