Looking for peanuts with crunchy, spicy coating

My husband has been talking longingly about this peanut snack he used to get in Peru. The peanuts are coated in a batter made out of corn or wheat or something. Then the coated nuts are either salted or spiced (he prefers the spicy ones). He doesn't know what they were called--they just called them "spicy peanuts" in Spanish. Can something along these lines be procured in L.A.? We don't know if they are Peruvian thing or a more general Latin American thing, and I thought perhaps Mexican grocery stores might carry something along these lines? Have you seen anything like this anywhere in greater L.A.?
