[PDX] Reo's Ribs in Aloha

aristo | Nov 23, 2003 10:40 PM

The other day I decided to check out this spot after hearing Jane & Michael Stern raving about it at the Splendid Table (OPB Radio every Sunday at 6 P.M.)

The place looks like an authentic Southern BBQ joint: Plenty smoke from the outdoor smoker; small run down shack that feels just right for BBQ. The expectations were high...

The Sterns raved about the pork ribs and the special extra hot sauce ($1 extra). My take:

The pork ribs were good but I have had better. Some where overly dry. (When I mentioned it to the dude that asked "how is the food" he shrugged and said "ya, sometimes it happens". No make up offer.)

I coughed the extra buck for a tiny container of the extra hot sauce. It was good, but I could do fine without it. Might be more meaningful for hot peppers mavens beyond my expertise.

Had a taste of the beef brisket: OK but not spectacular.

For sides I had Collard Mustard Greens - very good; and fried okra - OK. Sweet potato pie was good.

I am wondering if I caught them on a lower than average day. Anybody had better experiance there?

[Reo's Ribbs 17385 SW Tualatin Valley Hwy 503.356.1452. Open daily.]
