Sad about the Foothill Broiler closing. The burgers and fries there and Pete, the owner, have been watching my now 7 year old daughter grow up since she was about 2. Pete said the good folks who own the building kindly offered to let him stay--at double the rental rate he was paying (which wasn't a bargain to begin with).
Gotham Building Tavern opened last week. The food and service were both excellent, the decor. . .unique. I'll be visiting again this week and try to offer a detailed report afterward.
Finally, Pata Negra will open--more likely than not--this coming Tuesday. Ricardo told me he'd have a menu to look at Monday. For fans of Tapeo, this could be great. Sunny orange walls, about 50% larger than Tapeo was. It's also nice to have another good restaurant just down the street. The Thai place that went into the old Tapeo space has pretty much sucked the two or three times we visited and I have no plans to return again. With the meager crowds I see there, expect another vacancy in that spot before too long.
