PDX: great, "regular" breakfast/lunch food

aldah moonwater | Dec 5, 200305:19 PM

for great and inexpensive breakfast or lunch: grandma lucy's cafe at 50th and division in se. current weekday hours are 7 to 2. a little later on weekends, i think.

there is a menu but if he has the ingredients, he will make whatever you want. and the food comes exactly as ordered and there is plenty of it.

their burgers have few rivals in portland. they are great tasting and a full half pound. sub fries and you have this huge burger and fresh cut fries for under 4.50.

it is vegetarian and atkins friendly. they are a great bunch of folks who will remember how you like your food very quickly.

the pancakes rival the best i have ever had. the only places i have found that are in the same class are our original pancake house on barbur (but who needs the wait and the price) and the jackson hole airline diner in queens near laguardia aiport (too far to go unless you are in the area...).

they have both kind of potatoes, hash and home. onions come raw or grilled.

we just took visitors from chicago there today. chicago has a lot of great breakfast places and they loved it, especially the pancakes.
