I was just in Boston for a few weeks and while I was there I got this giant craving for fried clams, since they're everywhere. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to get any. So now I'm back in Portland and have a wicked bad craving for fried clams. Do they have those here? I can't remember really seeing them, but there's lots of clam chowder, so I have hope... If they exist out here, any suggestions for somewhere good? I wouldn't admit this on the Boston board, but I'm happy with strips as well as whole clams, as long as they're nicely prepared.

While we're talking clams, chowder recommendations are very welcome as well. My favorite in this area so far was at Blackfish, but I can't get there very often. I like a traditional chowder with a bacon-y base, no weird dill or anything.
