I stopped in the Pastry Corner today and apparently they have new owners. And I say apparently because its obvious. Not in the cakes - most of them look the same, but in the service. When I came in the two young pretty girls behind the counter were flirting with a customer. Its took a while to get any attention, but I finally did. I asked what was in the chocolate horn. She said, ok I and proceeded to bag the item. Then I repeated - what's in it. Chocolate, she said.. I asked if there was anything else in it, like nuts. She replied that it was not a nut free bakery. I said I don't care I just want to know what else is in it. She asked the manager and told me just puff pastry and chocolate. I was looking for something different than that so I pointed to a coffee ring and dared to ask what the filling was. She didn't know - what a surprise, so she asked the manager who had come out of the back and was standing there and he said - its a coffee ring, you know, it has like cinnamon and cheese. I said is that all is has, does it have raisins or nuts and he said of course, it's a coffee cake. At which point I asked if it was new management, he said yes and I said I thought so. The old owners could tell you what was in their product. Anyone working in a bakery needs to know what they are selling (it's true of wait staff in restaurants too). It's not hard, but it makes the difference between I place I will go to and a place I will not.
