So we were in LB today for some Art Experiences - parked on Junipero near all the 4th St. Groovy-Old-Furniture joints, checked out some very fancy pinstriping being done, then walked down to the Art Museum for a show we wanted to see. Walking back, I insisted on staying on Junipero, cleverly calculating that by the time everyone was feeling overdue for lunch we'd be at the Park Pantry. Got that one dead on the money...
This is kinda in the same category as Pann's: nothing mind-blowing or innovative, just very good solid American food carefully and skilfully prepared from good, sound ingredients. We all had sandwiches - Ms. O had a California Stack of roast beef, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato and avocado on a bun, plus fries, and friend Joan and I each got a Sourdough Melt, hers with roast beef and mine with turkey, which came on grilled sourdough with jack cheese and (optional) Ortega chiles, and we both got coleslaw as our side. The sandwiches were huge and delicious, about half-again what any adult needs for a generous lunch. The fries must've been OK because I wasn't offered any, and the coleslaw was some of the best I've ever had, my own included. Wine and (soju) cocktails are available, but we just had water and one iced tea. With this, the tab was an even $10 apiece, or just under $12 with tip, which we were very happy to leave as the service had been brisk and friendly.
We've had so many happy dining moments on our Long Beach excursions that it can be hard to decide where we want to go, or to break away from plces we love to check out something new. We are agreed on a need to try Enrique's pork shank, and there's a favorite Mexican place in Wilmington we need to go back to. I'll keep y'all posted on any further adventures...
