Paris & Le Bristol & les cigars....

I just spent four days on a last-minute trip to Paris, and the one disappointment was the meal at the Bristol--the big blowout meal for my husband and me. As we were about to be served our first course, the captain rolled a cart to the next table, two rather loud obnoxious gentlemen--they were staying in the hotel and were obviously on a business trip. I thought it was the cheese cart, but to my utter surprise, it was the cigar cart. After they each selected a big fat stoagie (sp??), the captain went through the ritual of cutting, lighting, etc., and handed each man his lit cigar which they proceeded to smoke for the next hour. With the smoke blowing in our direction, it ruined our evening. The dining room was full and there was no place to move. I explained my disappointment to the captain and he shrugged and looked at me with complete disdain. I lived in the south of France for four years in the 90's and the only time I encountered a cigar in the dining room, I kindly told the restaurant owner that it was unpleasant, and he asked the gentleman to smoke in the salon which he did. I would love to hear opinions, stories, etc...
The food was a disappointment, but I don't know if I was just unhappy and felt like I had just wasted a lot of hard earned money--the most I'd spent in a restaurant...
By the way, we had a wonderful dinner at Flora, a fairly new restaurant on George V which was recommended by Patricia Wells...ambience, food, service--romantic, delicious, and a great way to start a trip to Paris!
