My boyfriend and I went to Paladar last night before a show at Mercury Lounge. The food was excellent--we started with big, tender mussels in a tequila chipotle broth. I had chicken breast glazed in tamarind sauce, served on a big bed of mashed plantains. To drink they have Mi Chilada, a Dos Equis-line concoction that I rarely see on the menu.
Unfortunately, our waitress was unfriendly and extremely unattentive throughout the meal. It took us like 30 minutes to get the check (this was AFTER asking once, and pointedly standing up and putting on our coats).
But still, it's a good option for the Lower East Side, and fairly cheap-- our bill came to around $50 for 1 appetizer, 2 entrees, 3 drinks and dessert.
