Oysters and neighborhood restrauants

Barry | Jan 31, 2002 09:19 AM

I have been following your posts for the past month and you local Chowhound's provide an excellent service. I am a 18 year Philly transplant that was raised on the shores of New England. In the middle of February I will be in New Orleans for ten days. I would appreciate some recommendations as to where I can purchase good fresh Oysters to shuck (would the docks be possible for a small quantity?). Also, thoughts on lunch and dinner spots would be great. This trip will not include the likes of Galatotoire's, Peristyle, Bayona, or Young's and The Salmon Fritche House on the North Shore. Instead, I am looking for more of the neighborhood type places (even though Young's fits the bill), if you will. Cajun, Seafood, Italian, Po-Boys, Muffaletta's, and chinese. Thanks.
