Last weekend, my hubby and I went riding north to get some oysters. We wanted to go to Johnson Bay Oyster Company, but ended up on Highway 1 instead of Sir Francis Drake, and passed by Hog Island Oyster Company. We didn't realize that you needed 1)RESERVATIONS and 2) you shuck your own oysters!
You actually need to bring your own stuff (like a picnic) and pay $8 for them to give you a glove and shucking knife, and then you pay $10(?) for dozen. They suggested that if we didn't want to do that, go down the road to the Marshall General Store, where they had raw and BBQ oysters and a deck.
We went there and paid $18/dozen raw oysters, and got 1/2 dozen Rockfeller oysters (~$12 or so) - they were good, but kinda steep, considering that the oysters are from there! The General Store had drinks too, and sandwiches, and they have a deck out back that you can sit and sun yourself.
I think the Johnson Bay Oyster Company has cheaper oysters (last time we went was some years ago though)
Wish there were cheaper places to enjoy oysters!
