Oysterfest & Verboort Sausage

Two of the best NW chowhound weekends are coming up.

Saturday and Sunday it's Oysterfest at the Mason County Fairgrounds west of Olympia. Oysters (and other fish and shellfish) prepared every way imaginable, and it's cheap, too.

The first Saturday in November is always reserved for the Verboort Sausage Festival west of Portland. The tiny farming community makes a special grind of smoky suasage to go with vats of homemade sauerkraut, green beans, mashed spuds, fresh rolls, and two kinds of pie. You can also buy the uncooked sausage to go, but you have to get there early in the morning (like before 8 am) and get in line, because it always sells out. I usually buy about 15 lbs for the freezer.

Unfortunately, I'm going to miss both. In SF this weekend, then to Italy the next week. But eat some for me.
