A couple of weeks ago I asked for Ottawa recs thinking I would be spending at least a couple of days there by myself, and have collected and filed the gracious responses. However, logistics have me returning to the West Coast from Montreal. I am now bent on working in a day trip to Ottawa with my 84-year old mother from Massena in tow.
What I'm looking for is a moderately-priced, informal venue with honest North American or Continental fare (fish, game, domesticated critter, whatever). It should be accessible, since mother uses a walker and doesn't want to walk too far, though on-site parking is not necessary (we can be dropped off). Outdoor seating would be nice, with a (scenic or people-watching) view. Not sure yet whether it would be for lunch or early dinner (er, supper). Gatineau would probably work as well as Ottawa.
I realize this is a somewhat vague and open-ended request. Just looking for someplace that would be memorable but not over-the-top show-off.
