I was really excited to hear about the new Jamaican place opening in Huron village -- the land of pizza and more pizza. Don't get me wrong, I like pizza, but a little variety never hurts. This new place is called Ortanique. It's at 370 Huron Ave., and I believe it's open most days, but closes at 7pm.

We had a wonderful lunch there a few weeks ago, and shame on me for forgetting to post about it sooner. This place is owned by a very friendly husband/wife team, Leon and Valerie. They mostly do take out, but there are 3 tables in a tiny, but inviting room and we decided to stay and eat there.

Goat curry was fall-of-the-bone tender and very flavorful. It was the first time I had goat, and really loved it (kind of like lamb, but less fatty). The fish of the day was pan fried tilapia escabeche (sp?). I always thought of escabeche as a cold preparation, but this one was served hot as an entree with sauteed onions, and white wine vinegar sauce. The fish was very flavorful and juicy. Both entrees came with a salad (good greens with balsamic vinaigrette), rice and beans, and really yummy plantains. The whole thing was around $20 for both of us with drinks.

What a wonderful addition to the neighborhood -- thanks to the StriperGuy for leading us to this great find!
