orris on sawtelle - go there!

Went last night and had a wonderful experience. Sat at the counter as the rest of the place was full. Ended up being a great seat as you can watch all of the chefs create the food from that vantage point. We shared six small dishes: tuna tartare, fried anchovies, stuffed squash blossoms, grilled qual w/white beans, steamed clams, and snapper carpaccio. The tuna tartare was amazing, topped w/a quail egg and a few pine nuts, a moist, rich indescribible combo. The quail had a tuscan flavor of char and sage. The clams were plump and the broth tasted strongly of the sea and of sherry. Really good. The anchovies were light, crispy and well flavored whole little fish. We also had 3 glasses of sake. The bill, before tip, for the two of us, was $76. It was a fun place to taste alot of things. The tuna and snapper dishes reminded me of the things you'd get at nobu, but, happily , without the attitude or the price. We will definitely return
