I just learned about this store from a retired Navy officer who used to be stationed in the Philippines. He said they sell homemade limpia rolls. This got my attention which I shared with my friend who is from Pampanga.
This afternoon we found ourselves shopping in beautiful Waukegan. So we stopped by to check out the store. This is pretty much a Philippino grocery store with a side business of catering. Pasted on the window behind the cash register was a list of the six Philippino dishes being prepared for today. The menu varies from day to day.
At the check out, they had several freshly made, still warm products to choose from. I bought two: sweetenend coconut sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves rolled up like cylinders then steamed plus an 'eggroll' which had a banana filling. While my friend gossiped about Pampanga - the owner is from the same town, knows my friends' uncle and speaks the regional dialect - I tested my treats in the parking lot. Both items were delicious and guaranteed my return visit.
My friend was invited to come back to sit in the rear to try the different offerings. I will tag along to eat.
They also had a small selection of African items like Fufu and canned groundnuts.
For my interest, I bought a small can of breadfruit. Isn't breadfruit referenced in Mutiny on the Bounty?
