Last weekend I noticed the “Grand Opening” sign where 23rd & Irving market used to be. The new occupant is Golden 88 Supermarket, also a Chinese grocer, but so much cleaner and more helpful now. I bought some very fresh sand dabs for $2.99/lb., and they were efficiently de-headed and cleaned for me. The fish guy saw me looking at the poultry and came out from behind the counter with a plastic bag to double-bag my fresh black “silky” chicken, $10.50.

A couple chowhounds emeriti have bought DR’s bar. They considered keeping the name, as DR represents their names, David and Rochelle, but it’s not search-friendly. The new name is Doctor’s Lounge. Here’s the letter to the neighborhood posted on the front door.
I stopped by last weekend in the midst of the repainting to see the “before” and hear about plans for “after”. Doctor’s Lounge should reopen this month after some clean-up, and they’re intending to keep it a comfortable place for the neighborhood. The kitchen is available for pop-ups by aspiring chefs or wanna-be truck vendors.
