Oola... pretty shotty service

Joe | Feb 17, 2006 03:39 PM

Two of us went to Oola last night, we had a 10pm reservation and showed up at 9 hoping to be seated early, we were seated almost immedietly upon arrival. Just enough time to be ignored by the bartender for about 10 minutes while trying to get a drink.

We started with a dozen oysters, they were great, as has been stated before the mignonette is really good (malt vinegar maybe?). Martini's were standard, though not shaken long enough to stay cold and had absurdly long wooden skewers for the olives.

Based on CH recs we went the ceasar salad, it was very good and a decievingly large portion. Lots of dressing which I only like with ceasar salads.

Main courses we shared the Chicken and Foie Gras Ravioli and the ribs. I did not like the ravioli filling one bit and didn't care much for the sauce either, but my girlfriend liked the dish. I thought the ribs had a nice sweet/salty sauce but were a bit dried out, the apple slaw was a solid side, my GF didn't care much for the ribs.

I usually don't care enough to complain about service, but the service was pretty poor all night. Aside from being ignored by the bartender our waiter wasn't very attentive. He seemed much more into the glass of wine he kept sipping from at the bar, than our empty drinks waiting to be refilled. When we ordered our second round of drinks it took a while, despite two bartenders on shift in a pretty small place. Also our server was a bit of a low-talker which didn't work in that loud environment.

On the plus side the waiter didn't really recommend too much unless we asked his opionion and he didn't try to upsell anything.

1 dozen oysters, 4 cocktails, 1 salad, 2 mains +tax&tip= $150.

May go back, but only because it's walking distance to the house.
