Onions To Go?

Friends and I are going to Hollywood Bowl in a couple of weeks and want to bring fresh chopped onions to sprinkle liberally on our Hebrew National Franks. Here is the dilemma: How to keep the onions fresh without stinking up the ice chest and annoying the heck out of everyone around us? Any Hounds who might be caterers have any tips on how to transport and keep onions sans smell? Appreciate it!
