OneSpeed Pizza. Bikes. Love. (East Sacramento)

Melanie Wong | Jun 12, 201108:49 PM     2

Last weekend I visited a friend in Sacramento. On Friday we had a casual dinner at OneSpeed Pizza. It shares ownership with Waterboy and has the same locally grown sourcing philosophy. The place was packed when we arrived before 7pm and we had a 45-minute wait for a two-top table.

OneSpeed in East Sacramento is bike friendly, providing bicycle racks to encourage you to peddle to the restaurant.

And it has a two-bike delivery team at the ready to bring your order to your house.

Next to the entrance is a chalkboard with the daily specials. We ordered the daily pizza special, and started with a roasted beet and asparagus salad, $7.50, to share. The beets and the asparagus were cooked a bit softer than I prefer, but once dabbed with the lemon-y aioli, I couldn’t complain.

The Pizza special, $14.50, was topped with sweet corn, hickory smoked Bledsoe bacon, mushrooms, red onions, cream, fontina, thyme. I loved the bacon and the sweet juiciness of the corn. My friend confided that she’s been trying to eliminate meat from her diet but this bacon will trip her up every time. http://www.flickr.com/photos/melaniew...

Nicely browned in spots on top crust but not charred, the upskirt was quite blonde. Despite the underbaking the crust had good flavor and satisfyingly chewy texture with a bit of initial crispness. This was a very rich combination of flavors and we couldn’t finish even half of this pie.

My friend kept the leftovers. I’ll admit that on my way back to San Francisco, I was wishing I’d taken them with me.
