Omakase at Sakana - Delicious

Michele Cindy | Jul 2, 2002 08:32 AM

I always wanted to get Omakase at one of the places mentioned on the NYC board but never got round to it. I went to my now favorite sushi restaurant on Rt. 59 in Nanuet, Sakana and ordered it for the 1st time.
I had a great meal.
My 1st dish was blue fin toro in a light garlic soy sauce. 2nd dish can't remember the fish but it was served in a grapefruit, and had grapefruit and the fish mixed inside. A strange combo that worked, light and refreshing. Next I was served very thin yellow tail which was seared on top. Next dish, 2 pieces of sushi salmon mixed with a light mayo sauce and ikura. After that a spicy roll which I can't recall the fish, but it also had asparagus in it. For the finale I was served a tempura eel hand roll. All portions were large and I was pretty full at the end of the meal. The dinner was exceptional. With tax, and a cocktail, the bill came to $62.00 for one. A bit high, but once in a blue moon it's a nice way to treat yourself.
