Best olives, esp. Spanish

I've loved the olives we ordered at Tia Pol (esp the teeny ones) and have good memories of olives served in various Italian restaurants. I'd like to enjoy high-quality olives at home, but whenever I try to buy olives in the store (Fairway, Int'l Grocery, et al) they are too soft and just don't taste very good and, after a few weeks of letting them congeal in the fridge, I end up tossing 'em, no matter how few I started with. I've tried green, brown, big and little... HELP! I'm obviously shopping in the wrong places... or is the only way to get firm, yummy olives to pick them and brine them yourself (?!)
