We went to OLA Miami this past Saturday night. It is located in the space vacated by 5061 at 5061 Biscayne Blvd. in Miami. Douglas Rodriguez who was the chef at Yuca in Coral Gables and then went to Manhattan where he opened Patria has returned to Miami. OLA Miami is a two story space with several bars and a private dining room downstairs and the main dining area on the second floor. The kitchen is open and can be seen from upstairs. We had smoked marlin salad in taco shells and carmelized octopus as appetizers. Whole boneless snapper and pollo criollo were the main courses. Everything was excellent. The menu is Nuevo Latino and starters are $10-13 with main courses $18-29. Very interesting wine list with an emphasis on South America and Spain. I had a Spanish gewirtztraminer which was good. Service was fine for a restaurant that had been open for only a week. I almost forgot. They serve Peruvian cheese rolls which are baked on the premises. These little confections are superb and are worth a visit just for that taste alone. We are returning this week-end with friends and will try other dishes. It is expensive but well worth it.
