Ogunquit, ME-need some feedback

feelinpeckish | Sep 2, 2003 03:14 PM

For the second time this summer we stayed in Ogunquit on a brief trip and were pleased with the area in general. Both trips unfortunately coincided with holidays so mobility was at the crawl stage - careless timing on my part. A few places are new to me and I'd like some info if available. Joe Allen's in Qgunquit, Lobster Pound in Qgunquit (is it just another lobster pound?), Bentliffe's on US 1 in Qgunquit. We ate one night at the Old Village Inn in Ogunquit and enjoyed the atmosphere and service but the food was strange. I mean the meal was poorly thought out and prepared eg a lobster and calimari special with oriental vegetables and what seemed to be a "sauce" of mostly soy sauce. Not that it was bad but strange and not as it seemed from the waiters description which of course comes directly from the chef. I'd say the regular menu would be safer but that was the decision of my wife and her experience was similar. Another meal at the Old York Inn (I think that was the name), in York ME was very good - lobster and haddock on a fresh corn "sauce". It was early and the kitchen was evidently not really up to speed, but the food was great and the atmosphere and view were stunning. Definitely a place to re-visit. There are a number of places yet to try - just too many choices yet to make. So, any further info on these or other places would be appreciated.
