We spent last week in Ogunquit (our annual visit) and had some great food, and putting it into writing makes me realize just how much food we had!

Lobster Shack, Perkins Cove - a family favorite. Lobster rolls for 3 of us (a double for my husband) and a lobster BLT for my daughter. Also, corn on the cob and lobster stew. Went back another night and my daughter had the fish tacos, and my son had a steamed lobster. And more lobster rolls for my husband and me.

Ogunquit Lobster Pound - We ate dinner here 3 years ago and I thought it was mediocre then. But the name came up this time and my husband wanted to re-try it. So I went against my better judgement and agreed. Still mediocre and I was mad that I wasted calories on the dinner! FWIW, I did not only have a steamed lobster; I shared a lobster with my daughter and we also shared scampi with lobster and shrimp. The pasta tasted like, well, nothing. Zero, zip. Watery and bland. My husband and son did enjoy their steamed lobsters but I won't go there again. Just don't like it.

McLoon's Lobster Shack (thanks for the suggestion, dfrostnh!) - Excellent lobster roll! I had a single, my husband couldn't decide so he shared a double roll and a crab roll with our son. We also tried the corn chowder and grilled corn. Delicious and it was a beautiful day/evening, so it was really nice sitting by the water. We kept comparing the lobster roll to Red's Eats, which we tried last year. Truthfully, they are both so good and it was hard to compare (though Red's Eats is bigger). But it was nice to avoid waiting in line. And then, on our way back to Ogunquit, our GPS took us right past Red's Eats...and at 7:30pm, there was absolutely no line!

Clam Shack, Kennebunk - We visit every year and we know ahead of time that this is our night for "fried matter". We don't love the lobster rolls here, but the other food is great...fried clams, fried shrimp, fried calamari, fried haddock, onion rings. And clam chowder. And then we go to Rococo's for ice cream. Love the salty sweet cream.

Angelina's, Ogunquit - We took a break from lobster, etc, and went to Angelina's for Italian food. We have never been here before but always had it on my list. It was good, not great, but we just needed to mix it up a little bit, so it worked out fine. My husband did, however, have pasta with lobster :)

And now for a few of our breakfasts (we like to eat a late breakfast and then nothing until dinner).

Congdon's Doughnuts, Wells - love this place. Not only the doughnuts, but the french toast (and my husband tried the lobster benedict). That maple bacon fritter is one of my all time favorite foods!

Palace Diner, Biddeford - Been wanting to go for a few years and finally got there. When we saw the crowd outside at 10:45, we considered going elsewhere. Thankfully we stayed. They said 45-60 minutes. We were seated in about 20-25 minutes. I had the breakfast sandwich with jalapenos...loved, loved, loved it! The food, the coffee, the atmosphere, the guys working there. I wish we lived closer.

The Egg & I, Ogunquit - We never tried it since we usually go to the Omelette Factory across the street. Decided to mix it up. Now we know not to go back. Terrible service, very mediocre food.

Wild Blueberry, Ogunquit - I know that there are some naysayers but we like this place. My blueberry pancakes were delicious and my family all enjoyed their food too. And the service was good (it has been so-so in the past).

And lastly, ice cream...we love Rococo's but this year we discovered Scoop Deck in Wells (not sure why it took us so long to discover this place). Loved it so we went back the next night! We all got "double kiddies", which is 2 very generous scoops. My favorite combination was Peanut Butter Iditarod (vanilla with chocolate peanut butter cups & swirls of peanut butter) and Ye Olde Chocolate Salt (chocolate ice cream w/ waves of salted caramel). Yum!

Great weather + great food = perfect vacation!
