Sofrito's which has a food stand at the Saturday farmers market in Berkeley has finally opened that restaurant they've been talking about.
Mention of it is in today's Chroicle article about International Blvd eateries.
Lot's of Chowhound favorites, but a few I don't remember seeing (which doesn't mean a lot):
Pipirin - a barbacoa stand that got a mention for its beef consume
Chapinlandia - Guatemalan (will have to test this one out since I have an in-house expert)
La Cenaduria de Ana Rosa - regional Mexican sauces, pollo mole pipian and hand-made tortillas.
Tijuana - ya know, with a name like that, I really don't know if it's been mentioned.
I know El Huarache gets mentioned. However, next Christmas I'll be on the lookout for the ensalada de Navidad. Although the tecojotes (Mexican hawthorne) sound interesting.
Another place that gets Chowhound mentions, World Cup Coffee, has a nice separate write up on the tamale queen.
There may or may not be a reference to Chowhound in the taco truck section ... "None of this is a secret to East Bay chowhounds". Not capitalized or a reference to the site, so ...
