I really miss this Kansas City Masterpiece. I have tried for years to get a recipe for them, and my last attempt was a misrable failure. I contacted the KC Star and what they sent was someone's version that included chopped peppers, parsely, anise extract and etc. Nothing like the real deal. Does anyone have a clue? I dont think they included dry onion and tomato soup either, because they were in business in the 1940's and I am sure that predates those items. They used to be at Meyer Blvd and Troost. It was a loose meat burger served with pickles and mustard and chopped raw onions was an option. Buns were steamed for freshness.
