Time for nominations for our November Dish of the Month. Time to gear up for winter holidays, and maybe we want to explore something we will use for holiday entertaining. Oh, wait, we're not entertaining. Maybe we want to explore a dish that ships well and makes a good gift from afar.
If you are new to Dish of the Month, here is how it works: You can nominate as many dishes as you’d like. Please do so with the intent of cooking along and reporting if your nominee is chosen. Be sure to put your nominations in ALL CAPS. Dishes not in all caps will not be counted as a nomination. The nomination period will end at 10:00 am on Tuesday 10/27, and then I’ll let you know that the voting thread has been put up, and we’ll vote on the top nominees. On the last day of the month at closing time, we’ll have a winner! Remember that the concept behind DOTM is to push your culinary envelope, so consider dishes that you haven't cooked before or haven't arrived at a go-to version.
We sometimes have confusion over what makes a dish. A dish is loosely defined as an ingredient and a method of preparation. So while chocolate is not a dish, chocolate mousse is a dish. It doesn’t have to be terribly specific, you don’t have to say “tomatoes chopped and simmered over low heat then puréed and poured into a bowl,” you can just nominate “tomato soup.” For some dishes, both the ingredients and the technique are implied, such as cassoulet or jambalaya.
Finally, here is a list of past DOTMs: https://www.chowhound.com/post/links-... We love having people add to these threads, so if something you’d like to make has already been a Dish of the Month, I encourage you to add to the previous thread. Our current DOTM is arancini. There is still plenty of time to make and report on your arancini, and you can find the reporting thread here: https://www.chowhound.com/post/octobe...
Again, nominations will close at 10:00 a.m. eastern time on Tuesday, Oct. 27th. The voting thread will go up soon after.
