First of all, I'd like to say that you make me very hungry. I often have to restrain myself from jumping in the chowmobile and heading west. Thanks for the chowedutainment!
Listen, I need to make something clear. This board is ONLY for discussion of chow specific to the Los Angeles area. Cookbooks, chains, supermarket products, etc etc are to be discussed on our General Topics board. This ensures that 1. this board stays super focused on LA, and 2. the largest number of chowhounds can pool their thoughts on non-local issues.
The job of our volunteer moderators is to draw boundaries and decide what goes where. We're not an anarchic forum, like Usenet...we're moderated (which is why the discussion on Chowhound is so focused, friendly, and non-commercial). And the moderation is NEVER intended as angry or repressive...just folks trying their best to keep stuff on track (the natural way of online discussion is anything BUT on track!) so the value of the resource for all hounds is, in the big picture, preserved.
We have many thousands of users, all smart and opinionated, and it's impossible for everyone to agree with every call. No matter what, there will always be some who sharply disagree, just as there's never 100% consensus even on the most loved restaurants! If we ran things by referendum, there'd be no end to the arguing, which would disrupt the focused chow talk. So the moderators make the calls, and expect everyone to roll with their decisions, right or wrong (as with umpires anywhere). No appeals. Also, we delete postings disagreeing with Chowhound Team requests not 'cuz we're mad at you, but because it digresses the chow talk.
We've noticed that some of you are getting a little hot under the collar about the moderation. Please bear in mind that Chowhound's intended for your enjoyment, not frustration! If your preferences for online food discussion don't jibe with how we do things, there's no need for bad feelings. Participation is, of course, voluntary. Please decide if you can enjoy participating within our framework even if you (inevitably!) disagree with some of our rulings. If so, you're always welcome here.
Whether you wind up staying here or going elsewhere for your chow discussion, I wish you only deliciousness.
