Folks, it was absolutely DELICIOUS, a horn of plenty, something I couldn't normally afford (tix are $110-135 each), but as a FONZ, I volunteered to help run a booth, and was given 2 long breaks to enjoy the endless gourmet cuisine at the Zoo!
Every major DC restaurant (& a few from MD & VA) was represented at the annual fundraiser, from Addie's to Zola. I mean places like Colvin Run Tavern, Tosca, Gabriel, Equinox, Ten Penh, Chef Geoff, Palena, Citronelle! Most were grilling wonderful things on their flat BBG grills right there. Not just beef but seafood, including wonderful prawn. And a HUGE pan of paella! Several places just offered desserts.
There was SO much food, too much to even sample one from every booth, plus MANY wineries, and places like Quartermaine's, Teaism, Starbucks & Krispy Kreme (a very popular table, I assure you!) Great live music too.
A good plan was that DC Central Kitchen picked up any leftover food at the end of the night.
They also had some small giveaways like magnets & pins & ground coffee, along with $5 massages, and modestly prices games where everyone wins a prize...
So I HEARTILY recommend ZooFari 2005 to all chowhounds, tho I realize it's quite pricey (I bet you can claim it for your taxes). I'm aware some chowhounds shell out more than $65 for the annual Food & Wine Expo downtown in the spring. If you join FONZ, not only will you get free Zoo parking & discount ZooFari tix (to Boo at the Zoo and the kiddie fundraiser Guppy Gala too), but you can volunteer at ZooFari & seriously nosh, on the cheap...
