Cibo: Went with 3 other friends to Cibo tonight for dinner at 6:30. Service was very pleasant, food was good. Broccoli rabe appetizer was nice but nothing too exciting. I had the spinach ravioli in marinara sauce, the ravioli themselves were very good and I thought the sauce was fine. They were topped with melted smoked mozzarella. Two friends had pasta dishes that looked good, other friend had gnocchi with gorgonzola cream sauce which was quite good. Shared a 21 dollar bottle of pinot grigio which was fine. We were not served bread with our meal (I think our waitress forgot) but we didn't ask for it. But that was okay since I finished with more room for dessert. I had been to Cibo a few times between 2000 and 2002 but hadn't been since, it wasn't as good as I remembered it. The calamari there was always good, but we didn't have that this time. Total bill (before tip) was 90 dollars. I would recommend Cibo, but not too enthusiastically.

Modern Pastry: Several tempting options, but I ended up ordering a cannoli in a chocolate shell. Freshly filled when I ordered, topped with powdered sugar, a delicious treat for dessert. One friend got a candy-bar like dessert with nougat, caramel and almonds (covered in chocolate). Friends ordered other treats as well, enjoyed them all.

Both establishments are on Hanover St. in the North End.
