After visiting North end (May 8, 2002)and having two dinners there,
with reservations, I have to say SKIP these two places
Cafe Pompei (off the main drag) it is average food, with decent prices and pretty lame service. Also, SKIP Villa Francesca. They are out to get your money, rush your dinner, deliver cold food that is not even of average taste and they will try to "upgrade" you towards bruchetta instead of just giving you a basket of bread (which of course is completely cheap and its all over the neighborhood, thus being competitively priced for them to buy). You have to ask for butter. You have to ask to keep your plate. You have to be prepared to be ready at their pace as they want to turn over the tables quickly and TO MY KNOWLEDGE, there is not a single Italian running the place.
On the up side, go to Bova's bakery if you want to skip the long line's at Mike's. They have excellent pastries. The bakery is the best to offer in our opinion.
