Actually I made some changes: I used 4.5 liters of 100 proof Smirnoff "57" rather than lab standard ethanol, without varying the quantity of red wine syrup (750ml of 2-buck Chuck Syrah reduced with 3 cups sugar.) I waited the full 6 weeks before adding the seasonings and another three weeks before adding the wine syrup.
It tastes good! And since 5 liters is approximately 4.75 liters more than I'll ever consume, I have some nifty holiday presents for friends.
