Nico's Trattoria - UES

I recently ate at Nico's on a friend's recommendation to try their gnocchi which are reportedly "pillows from heaven". While I would agree that they were quite good they were not good enough to put up with the overall demands of this place. It is a tiny place on E 84th Street off of 1st avenue. As soon as you sit down you are greeted by a menu that clearly states it is cash only (no prob) but that the owner reserves the right to require you to spend $40 per person and to spend no more than 2 hours and one of his precious tables. I should have left at this point but the allure of the pillows from heaven kept me in my seat. Then the owner comes over and spends over 5 mins describing his specials. So we finally ordered, 2 mains and an appetizer to share plus 2 glasses of wine, apparently not enough to suit the owner who asked us if we thought that was enough food. To which we replied yes we did - needless to say it was. After we ate we quickly asked for the check, having had more than enough of this place. The check was less than $40 per person but no surcharge was implied. However, the overall experience left me with such a bad taste that I cannot recommend this place in the least.
