My husband and I are going out to dinner with his sister, my mom and my brother and his girlfriend. The sister lives in London , and is an interior designer who loves a fun scene. My Brother and his girlfriend both work at one of the best seafood places in Vancouver, and she is a chef who grew up cooking really traditional chinese fare in Hong Kong. My mom will drop dead if the bill is more than $100 per person. I would like to wow the foodies with some inspired cooking, but also have a nice atmosphere, good design and good service. We could do asian fusion, but it would have to be top notch. It would be fun to go somewhere either "only in new york" or with name recognition, but I would hate if it was over-hyped and over-rated. Here are some of the things I have come up with so far:
the much talked about: Bouley, Gramercy Tavern, Hearth, Town, WD-50
some places I have liked in years past : Salt, 'Inoteca, Grocery
We have taken them to all the notable restaurants in Williamsburg so that is the only neighborhood that is out, (well, I would like to avoid the Time Warner Center, it IS a mall).
Any other suggestions or recommendations on those? No chains obviously, and I would like at least one vegetarian option for the hubby.
