I just got back from a superb German beer tasting at the National Geographic building hosted by Michael Jackson (the world's foremost expert on beer).
There's an upcoming event that might be of interest to area Chowhounds:
Eating Across Europe (Lecture and tasting)
Tuesday, May 13, at 7 p.m.
Enjoy a gourmand's journey across Europe hosted by Rudy Maxa, contributor to National Public Radio's popular show "The Savvy Traveler," and restaurateur Daisuke Utagawa of Washington's SushiKo. For an article in the November/December 2002 issue of National Geographic Traveler, Maxa tagged along on a "field trip" conducted by Utagawa to sample "the culinary zeitgeist of the Mediterranean."
To celebrate Traveler's upcoming special edition, Taste of Travel (to be released in May/June 2003), the two will relive their culinary adventure, then adjourn to the National Geographic Society's dining hall to offer a sampling of the gourmet treasures they encountered overseas.
Single Tickets: Members: U.S. $25 / Nonmembers: U.S. $30
