National Drinks and Toasts?

The Rogue | May 26, 2004 09:49 PM

I was thinking on what are considered the unofficial national and regional drinks of the world. What is each country known for drinking?

Stuff like how Japan is known for Sake, of course there are so many thousands of sakes that you can't just say "this one is best." But what about Japanese shochu, beer, and whiskies? What are the best, and also easily available types or brands in each area?

Also what are the toasts said before / after drinking? Cheers, Skoal, Prosit, etc.?

Some countries / regions I am realy interested in due to a trip in the near future are: Canada (Vancouver), Japan, China (Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai), Vietnam, Thailand, India, Tanzanis / Kenya, South Africa (Capetown), Brazil, Cuba, and... Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, USA.

Thanks All.
