Nanbankan (brief review)

High school friend and Kings season-tix sharer took me to this primarily yakitori bar btn. Sawtelle & Corinth at 11330 SM last night. Was gracious enough to apply some of his weekend's football winnings to cover the tab.

In between commiserating about a year without hockey, we ordered the following items off the grill:

asparagus -- DELICIOUS, actually in retrospect my favorite of what I tried
garlic -- very good but mass quantities of garlic are not my thing
chicken hearts -- my mom made us chicken hearts all the time growing up so I've never found them unusual, but some do. anyway, these were very yummy.
codfish -- excellent, one of the best this side of the great one at Asakuma and certainly leagues better than the one at Matsuhisa
lamb -- very flavorful and generous
rice rolls with salmon and bonito -- I never got to taste the salmon one but didn't care for the bonito one at all, way too bitter and not well-spread-out
live scallop -- actually maybe this was my favorite, delicious with lots of scallions
sirloin -- excellent
sanma fish -- my friend ate this, didn't love it, weird aftertaste, I'm not a big lover of whole fish

And we had some tempura which was good but not great.

I rudely asked how much the bill was that he was paying -- $78 including a large beer for him and two diet sodas for me. Good place, was absolutely packed at 8:30.
