Nan Yang-I think . . .

I think its called nan yang, anyway-a Burmese joint on College? Anyway, just thought I should post this lest people think I am just interested in "foodie" joints (as opposed to houndish joints). Had dinner there last Sunday. Very interesting food, to be sure. We stared with an appetizer-"Seven Treasure Bean Curd" I think it was called. They say it is actually fried milk-whatever it was it was dangerously hot. I almost destroyed my palate on the first bite-I quickly cooled it with a shot of beer or else I'd have blistered my mouth!! Next came a not so memorable soup, good not great. A platter of garlic noodles with seafood and coconut milk followed, along with a delightful stir fry of fresh wood ear mushrooms and veggies. These dishes sang. The wine list at Nan Yang was interesting-this may be a good place to experiment with wine and asian food combinations in the future as the food is not at all spicy (heatwise). Anyway, I thought this place was cool and it was PACKED. I don't know if its a local fave or whether it was just the Berkeley graduation crowd. I'll be returning to this place to try the plate of four different types of rice, which looked very good. Any comments to inform me about what else is good here would be greatly appreciated.
