Nan - Philly

Whenever we have dinner at Nan, we ask ourselves why we don't get here more often.
We were there last night, and had an excellent dinner.

Three of us started with the cold cucumber soup, which was a special. This is absolutely the best cucumber soup that any of us have ever had. We were told that they will make it during the winter if you call ahead and request it. I have tried making different versions, but can never get it the way it is at Nan.
Our other friend had the mussels in an amazing preparation - outstanding.

Two of us had the wahoo (Hawaaian butterfish) as an entree and it was delicious. The other two had the Peking duck breast - also a special, but it seems to be always available - which is about the best duck breast preparation around.

For dessert, two of us had the evening's special: a strawberry rhubarb tart. We loved it. Our friend who had the ice cream was raving about the coffee flavor; it turned out there was kahlua in it. I wish I had tasted it! We had to skip the wonderful apple on puff pastry with caramel sauce dessert and the warm-center chocolate cake.

Other favorites there that we didn't have last night are the pad thai, the rack of lamb, the salads - and more.

The atmosphere was quiet enough to talk, the service was excellent, and everything we had was top notch. It's located at 40th and Chestnut and we always find street parking. It's BYOB.

Sometimes we forget our old standbys, what with all the new places we want to try. And Nan doesn't change the menu much, just maybe adds a few choices.
This time I think we'll remember more often!
