Went last night to Namu to check out their nre Korean Fried CHicken offering. This was my first trip to Namu, I've been meaning to go for some time, mostly to try the much-lauded burger. The purpose of last night's trip, however, was the chicken.
We started with a couple appetizers. First, the short rib tacos. These were delicious, albeit a little messy (not sure how one can actually eat this in taco form!). We also had a green beans dish that was topped with chunks of fried guanciale. This dish was very good, though it did feel like it was lacking something to completely bring it together (a little more salty, a little more spicy, and this would have been perfect).
So far, so good, it was shaping up to be a good meal. And then the chicken came. It was served with 2 sides, a spicy coleslaw and pickled daikon, both tasty, plus some gravy. I'd say the chicken was an overall disappointment. The light, crispy batter was good at first, but it quickly went soft. It didn't seem to adhere to the chicken all that well, coming off in large chunks. The meat itself, while juicy, also was pretty flavorless. Two of us didn't finish the dish. This is not something I'd order again (though I'd like to return to Namu for the burger and some other dishes).
Anybody else try this out yet? Perhaps I just had an off experience, as I've heard many raves about this place and I want to give them the benefit of the doubt!
