40 degrees by day, 30 degrees by night. It's prime time maple syrup season!
If you're looking for a chowish experience with the family (or without), there are quite a few maple syrup demos going on in parks and at the MN Landscape Arboretum in Shakopee. (Star Tribune weekly calendar linked below lists a few)
We hit the Elm Creek Park Preserve in Dayton, MN for their demonstration -- very cool to see them cooking down the sap in a big cast iron kettle over an open fire. And, of course, the samples of the finished product were amazing.
Which leads to the next question -- anyone aware of any farmers' market kind of places where you can get small-batch maple syrup directly from a producer? Or any notable farms with great syrup within a reasonable distance?
