Just returned home, to California, after visiting the great city of Minneapolis and after dining at two extraordinary places. FIrst, 112 Eatery has got to be one of the best 'fresh market' dining establishments in the United States (and I get to eat in a LOT of places). Not only is the food sumptuous, but the wine list is both broad and fair. I went twice when visiting I was so impressed. Second, the chef's tasting menu at Vincent was as good as it gets. Anywhere. More special, I think, is the fact that Vincent, his sous chefs, and staff are not afraid to present more regional food and wine within the French context of cooking. The wine pairing for the tasting menu was exquisite, absolutely authentic, and properly matched. The entire experience would cost twice as much in New York, Chicago, or Los Angeles and would not be better. The attention to detail, especially in taste and texture, was exacting. Frankly, I can hardly wait to return........
