MSP-112 Eatery Report (Finally!)

CulinaryKate | May 8, 200611:31 PM

Since having Mom in town I thought it would be appropriate for us to dine at the "best restaurant" in minneapolis this evening. I have to post immediately or my terrible short term memory will kick in, and I'll forget everything we had. There were 5 of us, and I'll go by person, since I tried almost Everything

Group Shared: Cauliflower Fritters (we actually ordered a second serving, since we gobbled up the first serving so quickly, they were awesome) Tres Leches Cake (oh god!) Strawberry and Mango Tart (crispy buttery perfect pastry crust... I honestly never thought pastry could taste so good) cheese platter: Gooey ripe brie, strong but sweet and salty blue and a firmer white cheese (goat gouda perhaps?).

Mom: Foie Gras/Lardon Salad: Pure heaven. Mixed greens with a HUGE piece of seared foie gras on the side and a bread crumb coated poached egg with perfectly crisp lardon. Kill me it was so good.
Halibut with Large possibly grilled tomatoes. This was pretty good. I think they used mint in the marinade which gave it a really nice fresh flavor

Kate: Foie Gras/Lardon Salad: See comments above
Roasted Ahi in Pancetta with Portobellos and Foie Gras underlay (can you tell I like my fatty liver?) This was great, but I was so full i only ate 1/2 of it. The pancetta was sliced really thinly and wrapped tightly around the ahi cooked a PERFECT Ultra rare. The portobellos were caramelized and sweet, and a perfect accompianment.

Kyle: Stringozzi with lamb ragu: Clearly housemade stringozzi (with just enough give, they could have been made by an italian professional without a single change in texture or flavor) with a mild tomato based lamb ragu. Very nice
Bershire pork tenderloin: This was good and served with might have been a white bean or garbanzo puree, but I tried it twice and honestly couldn't tell you what it tasted like right now. Kyle really liked it.

Benesh: Scallop appetizer: Sadly I'm allergic to shellfish so i didn't get a taste, and i'm not sure anyone else but Benesh did either (the scallops were gone when I finally looked up from my Foie Gras/Lardon salad and Ahi (see above)

Alicia: Salad: no idea what she had, i was being self absorbed during appetizer time
Asparagus Gnocchi: The asapargus looked like it had been shaved with a truffle slicer on a bias, and the gnocchi were perfectly pillowy and fluffy. These were either baked to a golden brown, or finished in the sautee pan (my assumption) to give them a nice caramelization.

2 bottles of the castle rock chard reserve (around $40/bottle)... REally good if you like the oaky buttery thing. Total bill including tip: $365. Thanks for fitting that bill mom!!! Now i understand why even a month in advance I couldn't get a reservation for 5 later than 5:30pm!
