Mowimy po polsky - NO!

JimInLoganSquare | Oct 20, 200309:05 PM

Here's my problem: I am surrounded by riches and am an ignoramus. I live in Logan Square and love cruising up to the Polish shops along Milwaukee Avenue just north of here. I can deal with the bakeries and am pleased with what I get there. The language barrier, however, is really impinging on my ability to enjoy the meats. I went into a couple of the Polish deli/butcher shops on Milwaukee and, while duly impressed with the array of sausages and fresh meats, I was ultimately intimidated and walked out empty handed. This is both a language barrier and an knowledge barrier (i.e., what are these various delightful looking things, and what should I know about them?) Where can/should I turn for the necessary culinary and linguistic info to avoid future frustration? Or should I just go back to Jewel (*sob*).
