On Friday morning, I literally stumbled onto this small place on Opera Alley in downtown Tacoma. The dinner menu looked really good. http://overthemooncafe.net/#!/?page_i... Resolved to do my research and return for dinner...
I was pleased to see a 4/5 on Yelp, 3.9/5 Google, 4.5/5 on Trip Advisor and 93% rating on Urban Spoon. So we made reservations for Saturday.
Well, it's the understatement of 2015 to say we were disappointed. Every single thing we ordered had been slopped beforehand and served directly from the microwave and/or freezer. I had the obviously-microwaved Shepherd's Pie, which still bore the imprint of the clingwrap in its glutinous topping, and it had "greens" sprinkled around the periphery that resembled what falls out of your lawnmower from last week's mow. Wahine ordered the chuck/veal/pork Italian Meatloaf, which was precut, dry, friable and came without any of the advertised "sausage gravy". The A-side of the carrot/haricot saute was scorched, the B-side grossly underdone.
Even dessert was from an earlier, less honest time. The "house made" bourbon ice cream arrived as a solid lump of ice milk, draped in frozen sauce (with nut dust) and a poor mint sprig that had obviously all been frozen together long before our arrival. It was so hard we had to break pieces off!
I really wanted to like this place. Stay far, far away.
