Montmarte-Capitol Hill: Review

Susan | Oct 16, 2001 09:11 AM

Montmare, a French restaurant on 7th St. SE near Eastern Market on Capitol Hill, was a terrible experience. I went with 5 friends last Friday night.

The menu did not have many appetizing choices to choose from. We didn't even order dessert (nothing with chocolate!).

The mussels were old and off tasting, both in the cauliflower soup and in the steamed mussels with pastis.

I ordered the hanger steak (onglet), which I have always enjoyed at Les Halles on Penn. Ave. After the server convinced me to change my preparation from medium to medium rare, the steak came back rare, barely seared. I could not eat it. The potatoes accompanying the dish were cold.

The service was extremely slow, except when they brought the check. Then, at 9:40p, they kicked us off the table!

Not recommended.
