As part of our cross country trip from San Francisco to Toronto, we will be slowing down to drive up from Baton Rouge to Memphis in late October. This trip will include stops in or around Baton Rouge, Natchez, and the part of Louisiana between the two. We then indend to travel further north to visit Jackson, Vicksburg, the Delta and possibly Oxford. We are looking for places to eat that reflect the local cuisine and are, of course, good eats.
I have read previous posts and have found some interesting recommendations for the Oxford, the Delta, Jackson and Baton Rouge. Doe's Eat Place in Greeneville, Revolving Tables in Mendenhall, and Lusco's in Greenwood are the kind of places that speak to us. We are also looking forward to some good catfish.
Would you have any other suggestions? Is Natchez really as weak in good Mississippi food as it appears on this board?
My other questions concern how one dresses when eating out. In California people dress fairly casual even when going out for fine dining. Seeing a man in jeans and a polo shirt at a middle of the road restaurant is not uncommon. What is the standard of dress in Mississippi when going out for dinner and should I be packing some extra slacks?
Thank you for your help.
