today i swung by the mission market on 22nd and mission and noticed a small chinese/vietnamese lunch spot. greasy steam table chinese buffet options, and pho and seafood/wonton noodles. i got the special pho to go, for $4.95 minus tax. i'm feeling a little unwell so my taste buds are compromised. the broth definitely tasted a little chemical, with too strong anise notes, but not terrible. i liked the beef balls, the tendon and brisket was tender, a mound of tripe, tough "rare" beef. they packed the broth, noodles and beef, and veggies separately, but there were no herbs with the bean sprouts. if i were feeling under the weather again and not in the mood to leave my immediate neighborhood, i might go again for the beef ball pho, but otherwise probably not, though it is cheap. anyone else noticed or given it a try?
